Is Your Electrical Panel a Hazard?

Dec 6, 2023

Each year in the United States, arcing faults in electrical panels are responsible for over 28,000 home fires, which kill and injure hundreds of people and cause over $700 million in property damage.

Keeping your panel up to date is the best way to ensure you will not be a victim of arcing faults.

When to Schedule an Inspection

If you have never received a panel inspection, or it's been longer than 5 years, we recommend getting an inspection as soon as possible.

There are a couple of red flags that could point to an immediate danger:

  • If your panel is 25 years or older. New codes are released on a yearly basis to ensure homeowners are safe from electrical fires. Keeping them up to date is the best way to ensure you won't have any safety issues.

  • If you have a Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) or other brand of Stab-Lok breaker panel, an upgrade is highly recommended.  Experts estimate that this type of panel causes an extraordinary amount of damage yearly. Including: $40 million in property damage, 2,800 fires and 13 deaths.
